Chard Reservoir Nature Reserve is designated as a County Wildlife Site.
This designation is monitored by
Somerset Wildlife Trust.
It is also a Local Nature Reserve. This was declared by The
South Somerset District Council in January 1992 under the 1949 National
Parks and Access Countryside Act. This designation is monitored by
Natural England.
The Reserve includes :
Meadows, about 6.5 hectares.
Woodlands about 10 hectares.
Open water about 20 hectares
Sanctuary Areas are provided.
Reed Beds are at the North and Southern end of the reserve and
are in course of improvement by the ranger and volunteers.
Size total is 36.5 hectares of land.
There is about 20 hectares of open water surrounded by the woodland
fringe of about 10 hectares
Ownership.
The site is owned by SSDC and management responsibility lies with the
Country Side Team at SSDC The PDF file
